Past Speaking Engagements
  • Michael Fasano and Fasano Associates' Medical Director, Dr. David Vaughn, spoke at the Delaware Valley Life Underwriters Association meeting on April 22nd, in Conshohocken, PA.
  • Michael Fasano a panelist on the program of the LISA 16th Annual Spring Life Settlement Conference held in Washington, DC, April 27-30, 2010 st on two topics; "Life Expectancies: Can We Trust Them"? And, "The Common Mortality Table (CAT): uses and Application". In the first, the panelists discussed their approach to estimating life expectancies and their views on reporting Actual to Expected results.

    Fasano called for all L.E. underwriters to perform Actual to Expected analyses based on their Actual life expectancy predictions and not to restate past estimates to make their results look better.

    During the second, panelists discussed how the use of the new Common Actuarial Table (CAT) will be used in performing Actual to Expected analyses and how this would allow for more meaningful comparisons to be made by investors.
  • Several Fasano Associates’ shared their life settlement expertise as presenters during the National Underwriters’ 3rd Annual Life Settlement Summit held March 11 and 12, in Miami, Fl.

    Michael Fasano moderated a panel of industry longevity experts in a discussion about longevity trends, genetic innovations and other possible breakthroughs that could affect the future of life settlements. Fasano Associates, Medical Director and Senior consultant, Dr. John R. Iacovino also participated on the panel.   • Michael Fasano was a presenter at the BVZL International Summit on Secondary Markets for Life Insurance held in Berlin on March 2-3. The presentation focused on Best Practices and Trend in Life Expectancy Underwriting. His presentation included the history of life expectancy spreads, how underwriting changes impacted the longevity market, and emphases on the need for more granularity and alignment of interests among all parties involved in life settlements.
  • Michael Fasano co-chaired an investor workshop on "Life Expectancy and Mortality -- Getting the Calculations Right" on opening day of the 15th Annual Fall Life Settlement Conference. In addition, Mr. Fasano moderated a panel on "Life Expectancy Best Practices". Other members of the LE Best Practices Committee participated in the discussion. The Life Insurance Settlement Association Annual Conference was held in New York City on November 8 - 10, 2009.
  • Michael Fasano presented "Trends in Longevity and Actual / Expected Analysis" at the 6th Annual Insurance Linked Securities Summit in Bermuda. The summit took place July 16th - 17th, 2009.
  • Mike Fasano and Hasan Qureshi spoke during a workshop held for Investors at the 15th Annual Life Settlement Spring Conference. The topic “Life Expectancy – Getting the calculations right”, stressed the importance of accurate LE predictions for investors to appropriately manage and predict profitable returns on LE portfolios. The two speakers discussed recent LE changes, why they happened, and what is to come. (May, 2009 New York City)
  • Hasan Qureshi anchored a LE Provider Panel that focused remarks on “Changes in Mortality Tables – Are we done yet?” The panel discussed the changes, if any, they see coming in the near future. (May, 2009 New York City)
  • Mike Fasano spoke at the Dealflow Media Event, The International Life Settlements Conference 2009. His presentation centered on “Investment Risks Associated with Life Settlements”. He noted that “even with accurate life expectancies, there are risks associated with portfolios that are not well diversified”. His presentation illustrated the shortfall in expected returns due to both statistical and clinical issues. (May 20, 2009 Dealflow Media Event, London England)
  • Mike Fasano spoke as a panelist evaluating longevity risk at the International Life Markets Association (ILMA) Summit.  The First Annual ILMA European Investors Summit focused on “Longevity as an Alternative Investment”. The panelists addressed recent mortality table changes implemented by LE underwriters and actuaries. They analyzed clinical and demographic variables that impact longevity risk and to what extent they are utilized  in developing LE quotes. (May 19, 2009 ILMA Conference, London, England)
  • Michael Fasano, Hasan Qureshi, and Dr. David Vaughan spoke at the 5th Insurance Linked Securities Summit held January 28 - 30, 2009 in New York City. Their topic was about Clinical Perspectives on Investment Risk for Life Settlement Portfolios.
  • Michael Fasano spoke at the BVZL/Management Circle Summit on Secondary Markets for Life Insurance in Munich, Germany on February 10 – 11th, 2009. His topic was “What went wrong with Life Expectancy Reports?”
  • Michael Fasano moderated a panel at the National Underwriting 2nd Annual Life Settlement Summit on the Role of the Medical Director in Life Settlement Underwriting. Dr. John Iacovino also be participating on the panel. The conference took place February 23 - 24, 2009 at the Renaissance Orlando Resort at Seaworld.
  • Michael Fasano spoke at the Workshop on Insurance-linked Security on October 31, 2008. The workshop took place at the Imperial College in London, UK.
